Union Delegates

Union Delegates are your co-workers who have gained the support and trust of the members in your department to be their representative.  Union Delegates are essential to District 1199NM; they play a very important role in their hospital as well as in District 1199NM.
Delegates are the connection between members and union leadership. District 1199NM is made up of a diverse group of employees with diverse needs and issues. They have taken the responsibility of ensuring that members are informed and they understand the issues that are important to their co-workers. Having delegates in each department helps the union understand the specific issues that may affect your department. Delegates are the eyes and ears on their floor, and therefore play a crucial role in the growth and strength of our union.
Delegates are also the first line of defense; they protect and enforce the contract.
As a union delegate, you deal with management as an equal in representing members. It is a violation of federal law for your employer to discriminate or retaliate against you for fulfilling your delegate duties.
