Good News!
I am pleased to announce that HB445 Safe Staffing 2013 passed the Health, Government, and Indian Affairs committee today with a 6-5 vote split down party lines. The legislators asked hard questions but our expert witness, Diane Spencer, RN, had all the right answers. Next, HB445 goes to the judicial committee. The time is still not known but we will get the date and time out as soon as the hearing is scheduled.
In the meantime, we must continue to move forward with our plan. There are a number of things that you can do to help us.
1. Volunteer to spend a couple of hours at the roundhouse speaking with legislators this week. We will send you with someone who has done this before until you feel comfortable. Wear your uniform and bring a stethoscope. Please call Mary Maes at 983-6716 to schedule a time.
2. Call or email members of the Judiciary Committee. Let them know why you support HB445. Go to the District1199NM website nmhospitalworkersunion.com for literature with talking points.
3. Sign our petition on our District 1199NM website.
4. Email, Facebook or twitter this information to your friends. Ask them to help.
5. Come to the next Hearing if you are not working.
6. And last but not least call or email Christine Trujillo (D-Albuquerque) the sponsor of HB445 and tell her Thank You for sponsoring our bill. 986-4255 christine.trujillo@nmlegis.gov
We had a great group who came out to the Hearing today. Thank you. You definitely made a difference.
